Medical Gas Cylinder
Medical Gas Cylinders | Seamless Aluminum & Steel High-Pressure Vessels
Product Identification & Technical Overview
Medical gas cylinders are seamless high-pressure vessels engineered for the safe storage, transit, and delivery of high-purity medical gases-including oxygen, nitrous oxide, medical air, and carbon dioxide-to clinical, emergency, and homecare environments.
Produced via deep drawing and hot spinning processes from metallurgically verified billets, each vessel maintains structural integrity under cyclic operational pressures up to 300 bar.
Product Selection Matrix
Select cylinder configurations based on required capacity, material metallurgy, operating pressure, and regional valve compatibility.

Application Domain Analysis
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) & Trauma Transport
• Deployed Cylinders: Lightweight Aluminum M6, C, and D cylinders (AL-017 to AL-140 series).
• Operational Requirements: High strength-to-weight ratio for rapid field deployment; brushed exterior finish with standardized color-coding (Green for Oxygen under CGA/US; White for Oxygen under ISO/EN). Integrated with pin-index pressure regulators for immediate mask or demand-valve connection.
Home Healthcare & Long-Term Oxygen Therapy (LTOT)
• Deployed Cylinders: 2L to 4L aluminum cylinders paired with lightweight click-style pressure regulators and conserving devices.
• Operational Requirements: High corrosion resistance, lightweight maneuverability for geriatric patients, and compatibility with standard medical rolling carts.
Hospital Central Piping & Manifold Systems
• Deployed Cylinders: 40L and 50L high-pressure seamless steel cylinders (34CrMo4 alloy).
• Operational Requirements: High volumetric gas storage efficiency, mechanical wear resistance in storage banks, and compliance with institutional medical gas zoning standards.

Manufacturing & Material Specification
Material Composition & Metallurgy
• Aluminum Cylinders: Extruded from high-purity Aluminum Alloy 6061-T6, providing high fracture toughness, excellent atmospheric corrosion resistance, and non-magnetic properties suitable for MRI-adjacent clinical suites.
• Steel Cylinders: Forged from Quenched and Tempered 34CrMo4 Alloy Steel (equivalent to AISI 4140 modified), delivering high tensile strength (>850 MPa) and uniform wall thickness distribution under high-pressure cyclic loading.
Production Process Flow
• Billet Inspection & Cutting: Spectrographic analysis verifies the chemical composition of incoming metal stock.
• Deep Drawing / Hot Piercing: Billets are heated to controlled temperatures and formed into seamless cups via heavy hydraulic presses or rotary piercing mills.
• Wall Reduction & Spinning: Hot spinning shapes the cylinder shoulder and neck profile, ensuring exact concentricity.
• Heat Treatment: Cylinders undergo solution heat treatment and artificial aging (Aluminum) or oil quenching and tempering (Steel) to achieve mechanical property specifications.
• Thread Machining: CNC thread cutting forms precise neck threads (3/4-16UNF, 25E, or M18x1.5) conforming to ISO 11116 or ISO 11118 standards.
Surface Treatment & Coating:
• Interior: Shot-blasted, acid-washed, and rinsed to eliminate drawing lubricants and establish a particle-free, dry internal finish.
• Exterior: Shot-blasted, electrostatically coated with epoxy-polyester powder, and thermally cured at 200°C for chemical and scratch resistance.

Quality Assurance & Regulatory Testing
Every production batch undergoes mandatory destructive and non-destructive testing before release:
Hydrostatic Pressure Test: Each cylinder is pressurized to its test pressure (TP = 1.5 x WP or 5/3 x WP) using a water jacket volumetric expansion test apparatus to measure permanent volumetric expansion (retained below regulatory limits, typically <10%).
Burst Pressure Test: Destructive batch testing verifies that the burst pressure exceeds minimum safety factors (>2.25 x WP for aluminum; >2.5 x WP for steel).
Ultrasonic Flaw Detection: Automated probes scan cylinder walls and base profiles to detect internal micro-fissures or inclusions.
Tensile & Impact Testing: Coupon samples from each heat-treatment batch undergo Charpy V-notch impact testing and tensile testing to verify yield strength, elongation, and reduction of area.
Internal Cleanliness Verification: Gravimetric analysis and solvent flush tests confirm that hydrocarbon residue levels meet oxygen-service cleanliness standards (<100 mg/m²).
International Certifications
North America: DOT-3AL (Aluminum) / DOT-3AA (Steel) compliant.
Europe: TPED 2014/68/EU certified with Pi (Π) marking; manufactured in accordance with ISO 7866 (Aluminum) and EN 1964-1 (Steel).
Quality Management System: ISO 13485 (Medical Devices) and ISO 9001 certified manufacturing facilities.
Procurement & Commercial Terms
Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ): 200 units per specification / mixed container loads accepted for standard stock configurations.
